Digital Government Africa Summit 2025: Zambia Leads Push for Continental Digital Transformation

Yesterday morning, Zambia launched the Digital Government Africa Summit 2025, reinforcing the nation’s commitment to driving Africa’s digital transformation. Now in its third year, the summit brought together delegates from 26 African countries under the theme, “Accelerating Digital Transformation for E-Government.”

The summit highlighted the critical role of digital infrastructure in connecting people and economies across the continent. Leaders emphasized that digitalisation is essential not only for economic growth but also for boosting intra-African trade. By prioritising digital advancement, countries can create more opportunities for citizens and improve overall quality of life.

President Hakainde Hichilema addressed delegates, noting that leaders carry the responsibility of advancing economic opportunities through digital initiatives. He stressed that investment in digital technologies can unlock new avenues for economic growth while fostering a more inclusive and connected Africa.

During the summit, Zambia also announced Engineer Kezias Kazuba Mwale as a candidate for Secretary General of the African Telecommunications Union. The election is scheduled to take place in Abuja next year, signaling Zambia’s growing influence in continental digital policy.

The president congratulated the organisers for delivering a successful and inspiring summit. He concluded with a call for continued collaboration, stating that a united approach is essential for building a more connected and prosperous Africa.

The Digital Government Africa Summit 2025 set a clear agenda for accelerating digital transformation across the continent, positioning Zambia as a key driver in Africa’s e-government and digitalisation efforts.
