The Road Development Agency (RDA) has confirmed that the Lusaka–Ndola Dual Carriageway project has reached 36 percent completion, signaling a major milestone in one of Zambia’s most significant and transformative infrastructure undertakings.
RDA Chief Communications and Corporate Affairs Manager, Anthony Mulowe, made the announcement during a media tour of the project. He reported that, despite seasonal weather disruptions and the technical challenges associated with large-scale road construction, progress has been steady since work began in May 2024.
“This is a very critical road project for Zambia and the region,” Mr. Mulowe emphasized. “It traverses key mining towns and facilitates the movement of minerals and goods, not only from our own mines but also from neighboring countries.”
The Lusaka–Ndola Dual Carriageway is expected to dramatically enhance connectivity between Zambia’s capital and the Copperbelt region, unlocking new economic potential for trade, agriculture, and industry. The project is being constructed under a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model with the Micro Ocean Investment Consortium Limited (MOIC).
Mr. Mulowe highlighted key progress indicators: over 100 kilometers of new carriageway have already been completed and are open for use in selected areas. Additionally, a total of 415 kilometers has been cleared and grubbed, 269 kilometers of selected layer laid, and 231 kilometers of cement-stabilized soil finished.
MOIC Site Engineer Xu Chuanjun provided further technical updates, noting that stabilization—a crucial component of road-building—has been completed in several sections. This phase ensures the long-term durability and strength of the road’s foundation.
The Lusaka–Ndola road is not only expected to reduce travel time and vehicle operating costs but also to improve road safety and support regional integration by linking Zambia more effectively with its neighbors.
As construction continues, the RDA has reaffirmed its commitment to timely delivery and high construction standards, ensuring that the final product meets the economic needs of the country while promoting sustainable infrastructure development.
