Mines and Minerals Development Minister Paul Kabuswe announced plans to deploy trained artisanal miners in areas previously occupied by illegal miners. These areas include Mufumbwe and Mpika, which have faced persistent challenges linked to unlawful mining activities. Zambia Army Commander Lieutenant General Geoffrey Zyeele confirmed that Kikonge Gold Mine in Mufumbwe District has been successfully cleared of all illegal miners. Zambia Army Commandos also shut down illegal markets operating within the mining zone. These markets were reportedly run by illegal immigrants. The operation restored state authority and improved safety within the area.

UPND Deputy Spokesperson Elvis Nkandu attributed the peaceful Kasama Mayoral by-election to President Hakainde Hichilema’s leadership.
