On 23 January 2026, the Zambia National Service (ZNS) marked a historic milestone by graduating over 1,500 recruits from Intake 27 of 2024 at the Kabwe Training School. This represents the largest intake in the Service’s history and underscores Zambia’s commitment to strengthening national security and development.

According to the Ministry of Defence Principal Public Relations Officer, Mr. Paul Shalala, the recruits were drawn from civilian employees who had served diligently and were upgraded to enhance national development and security on the directive of President Hakainde Hichilema.

Minister of Defence, Hon Ambrose Lufuma, praised ZNS for its prompt response to natural disasters and the successful installation of acrow bridges across key infrastructure projects. He highlighted that the newly graduated soldiers would contribute to the Service’s growing operational capabilities.

ZNS Commander, Lt Gen Eng Maliti Solochi II, emphasized that the passing out of recruits enhances the Service’s operational efficiency while filling critical human resource gaps. He also reminded new soldiers to maintain professionalism, avoid involvement in partisan politics, and prioritize loyalty to the Constitution, the President, and the nation.

Brig Gen Mwelwa, Commandant of Kabwe Training School, highlighted the rigorous training completed by the recruits. He noted that their successful graduation demonstrates the School’s capacity to prepare soldiers who are disciplined, skilled, and ready to serve the country.

The graduation of Intake 27 reinforces Zambia National Service’s role as a pillar of national security and development. With increased manpower and enhanced skills, ZNS is better positioned to respond to national challenges, support infrastructure projects, and contribute to Zambia’s overall stability and growth.
