The Governments of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and Zambia have announced measures to strengthen security for international truck drivers following recent attacks that disrupted cross-border trade. The decision was made during the 14th Session of the DRC-Zambia Joint Permanent Commission on Defence and Security.
The Commission noted the security challenges faced by truckers transporting goods between the two countries and stressed the need for coordinated measures along high-risk routes. Both governments committed to enhancing protection for drivers to ensure their safety and maintain the smooth flow of trade.
This initiative aims to promote regional commerce, reduce transport risks, and align with international standards and regional protocols. Strengthened security is expected to build confidence among logistics companies, facilitate timely delivery of goods, and attract more investment in cross-border trade.
