Zambia National Building Society (ZNBS) has reinforced its commitment to environmental sustainability by donating 1,000 fruit trees to the Zambia Army in the Copperbelt Province. The donation reflects the financial institution’s dedication to promoting eco-friendly practices and supporting climate action initiatives.

ZNBS Head of Internal Audit, Mr. Chisha Chewe, described the contribution as significant, emphasizing that it demonstrates how organizations can support sustainable practices while mitigating the effects of climate change. He noted that the donation complements the Zambia Army’s ongoing efforts to promote environmental stewardship.

Accompanied by ZNBS Ndola Branch Manager, Mr. Maybin Simukoko, Mr. Chewe commended the Zambia Army for its continued involvement in environmental management and community upliftment activities. He highlighted the importance of collaborative efforts in addressing environmental challenges and protecting natural resources.

Colonel Harry Ngulube praised ZNBS for partnering with the Army in the tree planting initiative, describing the intervention as timely in the fight against environmental degradation. “I want to express sincere gratitude on behalf of the Zambia Army, and indeed on my own behalf, to ZNBS for partnering with the Zambia Army in its quest to ensure a sustainable environment. Let me also recognise the importance of these collaborative efforts in addressing the global challenge of climate change,” he said.

The tree planting exercise forms part of the Zambia Army’s broader strategy to enhance environmental sustainability, increase tree cover, and mitigate the impact of climate change. The donation consists of 250 lemon saplings, 250 guava saplings, and 500 avocado saplings, all intended to support long-term environmental benefits and community well-being.

This initiative demonstrates how public-private partnerships can effectively contribute to environmental protection while fostering sustainable development practices in Zambia.
