During a recent presentation, Ambassador Muchanga reaffirmed Zambia’s commitment to strengthening cooperation with the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA) in support of the Government’s macroeconomic transformation agenda. This agenda aligns with President Hakainde Hichilema’s vision of doubling Zambia’s Gross Domestic Product by 2031.

Ambassador Muchanga highlighted key areas of collaboration with UNECA, including energy, agriculture, climate resilience, mining, and industrialisation. He placed particular emphasis on advancing the Electric Vehicle Manufacturing Project, a strategic initiative aimed at promoting sustainable industrial growth and technological innovation in Zambia.

Accompanying Ambassador Muchanga were Minister Counsellor Mr. Tom Michelo, Counsellor Economic Ms. Ikayi Mushinge, First Secretary Protocol Ms. Rita Makayi, and First Secretary Press Ms. Hambaya Munang’andu. Their presence underscored the Embassy’s collective commitment to deepening Zambia’s engagement with UNECA and fostering partnerships that drive economic development.

The collaboration is expected to provide technical expertise, investment support, and policy guidance to accelerate Zambia’s economic transformation. By focusing on strategic sectors and innovative projects, the Government aims to boost industrial output, create jobs, and strengthen the country’s position within regional and global markets.

Through sustained engagement with UNECA, Zambia seeks to leverage international best practices and collaborative frameworks to achieve its 2031 GDP growth target and ensure inclusive and sustainable development for its citizens.
