President Hakainde Hichilema officiated at the Churches Health Association of Zambia (CHAZ) 47th General Council in the Waterfalls area of Chongwe District. The event highlighted the government’s commitment to strengthening its partnership with the Church in delivering healthcare services.
During the address, President Hichilema emphasized the importance of CHAZ as a trusted partner in health provision. He acknowledged the organization’s contributions, particularly in under-served and hard-to-reach areas, and praised its adherence to Christian values in service delivery.
The President noted that CHAZ’s work is crucial, especially amid declining global funding for health and social sectors. He expressed gratitude for the organization’s continued commitment to improving healthcare access across the country.
President Hichilema reaffirmed the government’s commitment to the Memorandum of Understanding between the Ministry of Health and CHAZ. He proposed expanding the MoU to include additional areas that can further strengthen healthcare provision in Zambia.
The President also addressed domestic resource mobilization for the health sector, stressing the need for increased efforts to fund healthcare internally. He warned against theft of medicines and medical supplies, stating that the government is tightening laws to prevent such crimes. He urged increased investment in health infrastructure, linking a healthy population to economic development.
Timely delivery of medicines to all health facilities was another key focus. President Hichilema instructed the Ministry of Health to ensure consistent medical supply to save lives across the country.
The event concluded with a call for continued collaboration between the government and CHAZ, emphasizing the shared goal of improving healthcare access for all Zambians. President Hichilema closed his remarks with a blessing for the nation.
