Yesterday, Minister of Information and Media and Chief Government Spokesperson Hon. Cornelius Mweetwa, MP, officially commissioned the Nkaanga Community Radio Station and a new truckpark in Chibombo District, Central Province. The council-funded truckpark, valued at K724,916.40, is expected to reduce congestion, improve transport efficiency, and increase local revenue, while discussions are underway to develop a council lodge to serve truck drivers. The Nkaanga Community Radio Station, financed with K850,000 from the 2023 Constituency Development Fund, will provide a platform for promoting local content across governance, education, agriculture, health, and business sectors. Minister Mweetwa emphasized that the station belongs to the people, encouraging radio hosts and journalists to report responsibly, promote national unity, and avoid sensationalism.
These projects highlight Chibombo Council’s commitment to innovation and self-reliance, aligning with President Hakainde Hichilema’s vision for local economic growth and sustainable development. The truckpark and radio station aim to empower farmers, entrepreneurs, and innovators, amplifying local voices and fostering social cohesion. Central Province Minister Hoh Mwabashike Nkulukusa praised Chibombo’s strict fiscal discipline and effective use of the Constituency Development Fund, calling it a benchmark for other districts. The initiatives reflect a broader government strategy to expand access to information, improve service delivery, and create replicable models of locally-driven development. Zambia now hosts 263 broadcasting stations, demonstrating the country’s commitment to increasing information access and promoting community development nationwide.
Chibombo’s new infrastructure is expected to boost economic activity, strengthen local governance, and support the government’s agenda for inclusive growth. The truckpark will streamline transport logistics, while the radio station will serve as an educational and informational hub, connecting residents with opportunities in agriculture, business, and social services. By prioritizing local development and resource accountability, Chibombo District sets an example for other councils seeking to balance fiscal responsibility with community empowerment. Minister Mweetwa’s commissioning underscores the government’s intent to create practical solutions that address both economic and social needs, ensuring long-term benefits for residents. These projects mark a significant step toward improving infrastructure, enhancing local communication, and fostering sustainable development in Central Province.
