AU Chairperson Receives Zambian Ambassador, Highlights Strategic Partnerships and AU Reforms

Yesterday morning, the Chairperson of the African Union Commission, H.E. Mahmoud Ali Youssouf, received letters of accreditation from H.E. Amb. Albert Muchanga, the Permanent Representative of the Republic of Zambia to the African Union. The meeting marked a key diplomatic engagement as Zambia continues to strengthen its role within the AU. The Chairperson emphasized that Amb. Muchanga’s prior experience within the AU Commission equips him with valuable institutional knowledge. This expertise is expected to contribute significantly to the ongoing AU reforms. The session provided an opportunity to discuss Zambia’s ongoing collaboration with the Union and shared continental priorities.

H.E. Youssouf commended Zambia for its unwavering support to the African Union. The country hosts critical continental institutions, including the AU ECOSOCC Secretariat and the Africa CDC Regional Office. Zambia also plays a constructive role in regional diplomacy as host of COMESA and as an active member of SADC. The Chairperson also paid tribute to H.E. President Hakainde Hichilema for his leadership within the AU Reform Group. He recognized the President’s proactive role in addressing critical continental issues, including fighting cholera outbreaks and promoting initiatives to end child marriage. These efforts reflect Zambia’s broader commitment to social development and public health priorities in Africa. H.E.
