Secretary to the Cabinet, Mr. Patrick Kangwa, has urged Principal Public Relations Officers (PPROs) to enhance government communication and ensure citizens are fully informed about development programmes nationwide. Speaking at a strategic engagement at Ciêla Resort in Chongwe, Mr. Kangwa stressed that investments in communication structures must translate into clear, proactive information dissemination across all Ministries and Provincial Administrations.

Mr. Kangwa called on PPROs to reciprocate the government’s confidence by consistently informing the public on how policies, projects, and reforms affect communities. He noted that while significant progress is being recorded across sectors, achievements risk going unnoticed if communication remains passive, delayed, or inconsistent. He also encouraged officers to join President Hakainde Hichilema’s fight against corruption, highlighting the role of communication in promoting transparency.

Head of the Presidential Delivery Unit, Ms. Kusobile Kamwambi, reinforced the call for verified, factual, and timely information. She warned that misinformation continues to threaten public understanding of national programmes and urged PPROs to act as reliable links between government actions and citizen awareness. She also emphasized the need to respond swiftly to public feedback to strengthen community participation in both national and local development initiatives.

Ministry of Information and Media Permanent Secretary, Mr. Thabo Kawana, commended the PPROs for their work in 2025 and encouraged them to approach 2026 with renewed professionalism, innovation, and vigour. He highlighted that coordinated, strategic communication is essential for building public trust, countering misinformation, and promoting national unity. State House Chief Communications Strategist, Mr. Whitney Mulobela, echoed this sentiment, stressing the importance of harmonized messaging across government platforms.

Representing the PPROs, Ms. Eve Nankala expressed gratitude to government and President Hichilema for entrusting the team with policy communication responsibilities. She affirmed their commitment to enhancing government–citizen engagement and noted that a combination of digital and traditional media will be crucial in amplifying verified information while combating misleading narratives.

The meeting also provided an opportunity to review the PPROs’ 2025 performance and map strategic communication priorities for 2026. Strengthened communication, officials noted, will ensure citizens remain informed, engaged, and confident in government initiatives as the country advances its development agenda.
