Zambia Swears in Technical Committee on Constitutional Reform and Human Rights Commission

On 10 October, Zambia officially swore in the Technical Committee on Constitutional Reform alongside the newly appointed Human Rights Commission. The formation of the Committee follows extensive consultations with diverse stakeholders, including the Church, civil society, and ordinary citizens, who called for an inclusive and participatory process.

President Hakainde Hichilema highlighted that the appointed Committee reflects the unity and shared identity of the nation. He emphasized that the Committee has a solemn duty to listen to all voices, carefully consider every submission, and conduct its work with prudence, patriotism, and solidarity.

The president stressed the importance of quality, timely, and prudent delivery. He called for wisdom, fairness, and unwavering dedication to the aspirations of all Zambians. Citizens are urged to actively participate, share ideas, and contribute constructively to shaping the nation’s constitutional future.

In addition, President Hichilema congratulated members of the Human Rights Commission. He outlined their critical role in defending vulnerable citizens, leading with integrity, and upholding justice, fairness, equality, and human dignity. Their work will serve as the moral compass of the Republic.

The swearing-in marks a significant step in Zambia’s journey toward inclusive governance, constitutional reform, and the protection of human rights. President Hichilema reaffirmed the government’s commitment to transparency, citizen engagement, and building a just and equitable society.
