Minister of Commerce, Trade and Industry Hon Chipoka Mulenga officially launched the ‘Wina Nyumba Na Momo’ promotion in Zambia yesterday, marking a major step toward expanding financial inclusion and digital participation in the economy. The initiative, led by MTN MoMo in partnership with Micmar, is designed to give ordinary citizens a practical pathway to home ownership through digital financial services. The launch reflects the government’s broader strategy of building an economy that includes all citizens, regardless of income level or location. It also highlights growing cooperation between public institutions and private sector players in delivering financial empowerment solutions. The programme is positioned as both a social upliftment tool and a driver of economic participation.

The promotion is built around the use of mobile money platforms to encourage savings, transactions and responsible financial behaviour. By integrating MTN MoMo services with Micmar’s home related offerings, the initiative creates a structured opportunity for citizens to work toward owning a house. It supports the government’s goal of increasing participation in formal financial systems, especially among populations that have traditionally been excluded. The model also strengthens trust in digital financial tools, which are becoming central to economic activity in Zambia. It is expected to improve access to financial services in both urban and rural communities.

During the launch, Hon Chipoka Mulenga emphasized the importance of initiatives that reward participation in digital systems and promote economic inclusion. He noted that financial innovation must translate into real benefits for citizens, including asset ownership and long term stability. The Minister encouraged Zambians to actively engage with the promotion and view it as an opportunity to improve their financial future. He also highlighted the role of trust in digital platforms as a key driver of sustainable economic growth. His remarks reinforced the government’s commitment to supporting solutions that bridge the gap between technology and everyday financial needs.

The ‘Wina Nyumba Na Momo’ promotion is expected to have a strong impact on financial inclusion, particularly in rural areas where access to traditional banking services remains limited. Through mobile money services, users can participate in savings and transaction systems without needing physical bank branches. This accessibility allows more people to engage in structured financial planning and long term investment opportunities. The initiative also promotes discipline in savings habits by linking participation to the possibility of winning or accessing home ownership opportunities. It represents a shift toward more inclusive economic participation models.

The launch event also underscored the critical role of the private sector in driving economic development in Zambia. MTN MoMo and Micmar demonstrated how collaboration between technology and retail sectors can create practical solutions for citizens. The programme aligns with national development goals that focus on financial empowerment and economic independence. It also reflects a growing trend of digital transformation in Zambia’s financial landscape. The ‘Wina Nyumba Na Momo’ promotion stands as a clear example of how partnerships can deliver meaningful social and economic impact while supporting the government’s vision of an inclusive and modern economy.
