Col Linzalone, who is based in Pretoria, South Africa, also oversees Italian military interests in Namibia, Botswana, Zimbabwe, South Africa, and Mozambique. His appointment reflects Italy’s strategic approach to engaging with Southern African nations and deepening bilateral military relationships. This move is expected to enhance coordination, training, and operational collaboration between the two defence forces.

Col Linzalone emphasized his intent to further strengthen the working relationship between the Italian military and the Zambia Defence Force. He noted that Italy already maintains collaborative programs with Zambia, particularly through engagements with the Zambia Air Force. These initiatives include specialized training programs, exchange of technical expertise, and support for operational readiness. By expanding these partnerships, both countries aim to increase the effectiveness and professionalism of their armed forces. Col Linzalone’s presence in Zambia is expected to serve as a bridge for deeper cooperation, promoting shared knowledge and strategic engagement in defence operations.

Minister of Defence Hon Ambrose Lwiji Lufuma MP welcomed Col Linzalone and expressed gratitude to the Italian government for its consistent support to Zambia’s military. He highlighted that training provided by Italy to Zambia Air Force pilots has significantly enhanced operational capabilities, allowing the country to maintain a higher standard of readiness and effectiveness. The Minister underscored that Italy’s contributions go beyond training, encompassing broader collaboration in technical expertise and defence strategy. Such partnerships are crucial for Zambia as it seeks to strengthen its military capacity in a region facing evolving security challenges. The Minister reaffirmed Zambia’s commitment to nurturing a robust bilateral military relationship with Italy.

The Minister of Defence also noted that Col Linzalone’s appointment should further elevate the military-to-military relationship between the two countries. He emphasized the importance of expanding cooperation into more areas, including joint training, combined exercises, and knowledge sharing initiatives. These engagements are designed to build interoperability and improve the preparedness of both forces to respond to regional and national security challenges. By fostering closer collaboration, the two militaries can benefit from shared experience, strategic guidance, and advanced operational techniques. Enhanced cooperation is expected to strengthen Zambia’s defence posture and provide opportunities for Italian military expertise to be integrated into training and operational planning.

The arrival of Col Linzalone as Defence Attache is poised to deepen bilateral engagement and create new opportunities for military collaboration. Joint exercises and training programs will provide platforms for both Zambia and Italy to share best practices, build skills, and enhance operational efficiency. Strengthened cooperation is likely to extend beyond the Air Force to other branches of the military, promoting a holistic approach to defence partnership. With mutual commitment and strategic alignment, the collaboration between Italy and the Zambia Defence Force can yield lasting benefits for security, readiness, and regional stability. The appointment of Col Linzalone represents a significant milestone in the ongoing efforts to foster strong, sustainable military relations between the two nations.
