Today, Minister of Information and Media and Chief Government Spokesperson, acting as Minister of Tourism, Hon. Cornelius Mweetwa MP, officiated the 2025 Bankers Executive Golf Tournament in Lusaka. The event highlighted Zambia’s commitment to economic diversification, corporate wellness, and tourism development.

The Minister noted that the government remains focused on strengthening the banking and financial services sector, supporting initiatives that enhance risk management, governance, and customer protection. These efforts are designed to promote sustainable economic growth and diversification beyond traditional sectors.

The golf tournament serves multiple strategic purposes, advancing tourism diversification, workforce well-being, and leadership development. It provides a platform for corporate leaders to share insights, foster mentorship, and build networks. Hon. Mweetwa emphasized the link between personal health and professional effectiveness, stating that the well-being of individuals directly shapes the vitality of institutions, which in turn influences the country’s economy and tourism sector.

Maintaining a healthy lifestyle is crucial for leaders to improve cognitive function, decision-making, and collaboration, particularly in high-performance industries like banking and finance. Golf, in particular, combines aerobic activity with strategy, patience, and composure, rewarding discipline, preparation, and integrity, making it an ideal tool for leadership development.

Tourism and golf present a strategic pairing for Zambia, leveraging natural assets, favorable climate, and hospitality infrastructure to attract visitors, create jobs, and stimulate economic growth. The Minister encouraged business leaders to use golf for leadership development and to integrate wellness initiatives into corporate strategy.

The event showcased Zambia’s potential as a premier destination for sport, business, tourism, and culture, promoting cross-sector collaboration and sustainable development. The theme, “Teeing off for Health: Swing into Leadership,” highlighted how golf teaches lessons in strategy, patience, and composure, reinforcing the importance of healthy, disciplined, and visionary leadership in both corporate and national development.
