Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) President Keith Mweemba has delivered a stirring send-off to the Copper Queens as they depart for Morocco to compete in the highly anticipated 2025 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON). With the eyes of the nation firmly on them, Mweemba called on the squad to embrace patriotism and fight for glory.

Speaking to the team during a motivational address this morning, Mweemba underscored the importance of national pride, unity, and a winning mentality as the Copper Queens prepare to face some of the continent’s toughest opponents.

“As we head to Morocco, I expect each of you to embody one core value: patriotism,” he said. “You represent not only yourselves, but the people and the nation of Zambia. Let this sense of national pride drive you throughout the competition.”

The Copper Queens, one of Africa’s rising forces in women’s football, have been placed in Group A alongside tournament hosts Morocco, as well as Senegal and the Democratic Republic of Congo. Their campaign kicks off with a high-stakes opener against Morocco on July 5 — a fixture expected to test both their composure and competitive spirit.

FAZ has backed the team with rigorous preparations, including international friendlies and specialized training camps aimed at sharpening tactical awareness and physical fitness. Mweemba praised the players for their commitment and discipline, noting that their journey to Morocco is already a reflection of their resilience.

“This is your moment to shine,” Mweemba continued. “You are the pride of our country. Play with heart, stay united, and remember that every pass, every goal, and every victory will inspire millions back home.”

Support for the Copper Queens has surged in recent years, following their historic qualification for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics and a strong run in previous editions of WAFCON. Their spirited style of play and growing international reputation have positioned them as serious contenders for this year’s title.

With the tournament set to begin next month, excitement is reaching fever pitch across Zambia. Fans are hopeful that the Copper Queens can go all the way and bring home the coveted Africa Cup title — a feat that would not only elevate the status of women’s football in Zambia but also unite the nation in celebration.

As the squad embarks on their journey to Morocco, one thing is certain: they carry with them the hopes, dreams, and unwavering support of an entire nation.
