Zambia Athletics (ZA) is brimming with optimism as preparations intensify for the upcoming 2025 Region 5 Games set to take place in Namibia. Speaking on behalf of the association, General Secretary Teddy Shimishi expressed confidence that the selected athletes will represent the nation with dedication and are well-positioned to return home with medals.

Shimishi confirmed that the association has named a carefully selected squad of eight athletes, consisting of an equal split between boys and girls. “We are sending four boys and four girls. We had to balance the team, and we are also looking at the events that are going to take place in Namibia,” he stated.

He further explained that the selection process was thorough, with the technical team evaluating each athlete’s performance and potential in relation to the competition schedule. The aim was to assemble a balanced and competitive team capable of excelling in their respective disciplines.

According to Shimishi, the technical committee took into account the athletes’ recent form, consistency, and ability to compete against regional rivals. He emphasized that the squad chosen reflects the best young talent in the country.

“The technical team sat down, and those in charge of athlete selection considered the events available at the Games. I think they were looking at how we can maximize our chances of winning medals. That’s why we have come up with this group,” Shimishi explained.

The Region 5 Games, which bring together top youth athletes from across Southern Africa, present a valuable platform for Zambia’s emerging track and field stars to showcase their skills on an international stage.

Shimishi expressed gratitude to all stakeholders who have supported the team’s preparations and called on Zambians to rally behind the athletes as they head to Namibia.

With a focused and determined squad, Zambia Athletics remains hopeful that the country’s flag will fly high at the 2025 Region 5 Games, with podium finishes serving as a testament to the athletes’ hard work and dedication.
