Yesterday, Zambia observed Human Rights Day under the theme “Human Rights: Our Everyday Essentials.” The day marks 77 years since the adoption of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, which continues to affirm the dignity and equality of all people worldwide.

President Hakainde Hichilema emphasized Zambia’s commitment to translating these principles into practical outcomes for citizens. Key initiatives include expanding access to free education, strengthening social protection programs, and promoting economic empowerment. These measures aim to ensure that human rights are experienced as part of daily life, rather than as abstract ideals.

As the African Union Champion for Ending Child Marriage, President Hichilema highlighted the country’s ongoing efforts to protect children from exploitation and violence. He reaffirmed Zambia’s resolve to end child marriage and all forms of gender-based violence, safeguarding every child’s right to safety, education, and a dignified future.

Human Rights Day 2025 in Zambia served as a reminder that human rights must be integrated into the everyday experiences of citizens. By focusing on education, protection, and empowerment, Zambia is working to create a society where equality, safety, and dignity are accessible to all.
