The Government has expressed satisfaction with the industrial progress at M.M Integrated Steel Mills Limited, a key steel manufacturing company based in Lusaka. Minister of Commerce, Trade and Industry, Hon. Chipoka Mulenga, said the company’s expanding production capacity will be crucial in meeting Zambia’s growing steel demand, particularly in strategic sectors such as mining.

Mr. Mulenga emphasized that the Ministry of Commerce will work closely with other line ministries to address challenges facing the steel industry. He acknowledged existing hurdles but assured that the Government is committed to creating an enabling environment for the sector to thrive.

The remarks followed a tour of M.M Integrated Steel Mills Limited, located in Lusaka’s Chinika Industrial Area. During the visit, the company’s Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Gopal Kedia, urged the Government to accelerate efforts to resolve industry challenges. He highlighted the significant impact of the ongoing energy crisis on production but expressed optimism, noting that the Government is taking decisive steps to mitigate the situation.

The visit underscores Zambia’s commitment to supporting industrial growth, strengthening local production, and ensuring that critical sectors have the steel resources necessary to drive economic development.
