Zambia has won the bid to host three prestigious continental conferences in May 2026, reinforcing its position as a leading destination for Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions (MICE) in Africa. The events, including the African Marketing Confederation Conference, the African ICT Conference, and the Africa Supply Chain Conference, will take place in Livingstone from 25th to 27th May 2026.

The conferences are expected to draw over 2,000 delegates from Zambia, the region, and across the world. Zambia secured the bid following a competitive process against Botswana and Malawi, with the announcement made in Ghana on 22nd August 2025.

During the joint ceremonial handover in Lusaka, Tourism Minister Rodney Sikumba described the achievement as a defining moment for Zambia’s MICE sector. He noted that MICE tourism drives economic diversification, contributes to up to 80% of hotel occupancy, and generates employment in hospitality, transport, technology, logistics, and creative industries. Minister Sikumba said the successful bid signals confidence in Zambia’s ability to host world-class events and positions the country as a hub for business, culture, and innovation.

Zambia Institute of Marketing President Mwewa Besa highlighted the role of collaboration in securing the win. He stated that hosting the conferences will create new business opportunities, foster regional partnerships, and showcase Zambia’s expertise in marketing, ICT, and supply chain management on a continental platform.

Zambia Tourism Agency Chief Executive Officer Matongo Matamwandi emphasized the country’s potential as a premier MICE destination. He said the successful bid will enhance international visibility, attract investment, and support economic diversification. Matamwandi added that ZTA will continue to work with stakeholders to expand capacity, develop innovative products, and market Zambia as a leading MICE hub globally.

The Ministry of Tourism commended the efforts of the Zambia Institute of Marketing, the Information and Communication Technology Association of Zambia, the Zambia Institute of Purchasing and Supply, and the Zambia Tourism Agency for their teamwork and leadership in securing the historic bid.

These events are expected to strengthen Zambia’s MICE sector, boost tourism revenue, and enhance the country’s reputation as a destination for business and professional gatherings in Africa.
