Kamusongolwa Shopping Mall Breaks Ground as Kasempa Enters New Phase of Growth

Kasempa district has taken a major step toward economic expansion with the unveiling of the foundation stone for its first shopping mall. The Minister of Commerce, Trade and Industry, Hon. Chipoka Mulenga, led the ceremony and confirmed that the project will reshape local commerce and employment.

The K50 million investment by the Workers Compensation Fund Control Board will create about 300 direct jobs and many indirect opportunities. The project signals a new path for Kasempa as it works to attract investment and support local enterprise.

Construction of the Kamusongolwa shopping mall is expected to stimulate demand for goods, services, and skills. In his keynote address, Hon. Mulenga said the facility will provide a formal market for local products. He noted that anchor tenants will source fresh produce from farmers in the district. This will strengthen supply chains and help small scale producers expand their income.

The project aligns with the New Dawn Administration’s focus on decentralised development. The government wants all regions to benefit from infrastructure that supports new business activity and long term growth.

Minister of Labour and Social Security and Kasempa MP, Hon. Brenda Tambatamba, welcomed the investment. She said the mall is a clear sign of confidence in the district’s growth potential. Her message to investors was simple. Kasempa is open for business.

Minister of Small and Medium Enterprises, Hon. Elias Mubanga, urged local entrepreneurs to prepare for new opportunities. He said the local content policy provides clear support for SMEs. He encouraged business owners to position themselves to supply the mall and benefit from increased consumer traffic.

Hon. Gift Sialubalo also attended the ceremony, adding weight to the government’s commitment to the district.

Minister of Tourism, Hon. Rodney Sikumba, highlighted the link between retail infrastructure and tourism. Kasempa sits near the 22,000 square kilometer Kafue National Park. He said the new mall will offer a modern facility for both visitors and residents, improving the overall tourism experience and supporting wider economic activity.

Workers Compensation Fund Control Board Chairperson, Emmanuel Mbambiko, thanked the government for its support. He noted that the shopping mall will bring real benefits to the local economy and improve the daily lives of residents.

The launch of the Kamusongolwa shopping mall marks a turning point for Kasempa. The project brings new confidence, new jobs, and new potential for growth across the district.
