CEC Media Awards 2025: Celebrating Excellence and Impactful Journalism in Zambia’s Energy Sector

The Copperbelt Energy Corporation (CEC) Media Awards were recently officiated by Minister of Energy Hon. Makozo Chikote MP, underscoring the critical role of accurate and factual reporting within Zambia’s energy sector. Minister Chikote emphasized that the energy sector remains central to the country’s economic growth, stability, and long-term development.

During the ceremony, the Minister reiterated the Government’s commitment to safeguarding freedom of expression, expanding access to information, and strengthening an open, independent media environment. He also reaffirmed efforts to implement reforms that enhance energy security, broaden access, and encourage private sector investment. Chikote commended CEC for recognising quality journalism while strengthening the relationship between the energy sector and the public.

Acting Information and Media Permanent Secretary Mr. Bernard Domingo highlighted that the awards celebrate outstanding work across print, radio, television, and digital platforms. He praised journalists for their dedication, courage, and resilience in informing, educating, and entertaining Zambian citizens. Mr. Domingo noted that the Government remains committed to fostering an ecosystem where the media can operate without fear, citizens can access reliable information, and the media can thrive as a partner in national development.

The awards also included cash prizes and technology incentives. Runners-up received K10,000 and Samsung S24 mobile phones, while winners were awarded K15,000 and laptops. The event reinforced the importance of recognising excellence in media reporting, particularly within strategic sectors such as energy, while promoting transparency and accountability.
