Kalulushi, Zambia – The people of Kalulushi Constituency are witnessing tangible development with the construction of the Kabaso Bridge in Lulamba Ward. The bridge is the first in the district to be built using the enhanced Constituency Development Fund (CDF).

Construction began in July 2025 and has already reached 20 percent completion. The project will replace the old wooden footbridge with a durable concrete structure designed to handle heavy use and withstand varying weather conditions.

For residents of Kabaso township, the bridge represents more than infrastructure. It has created employment opportunities for locals, with 12 casual workers hired from Chambishi township. Many have expressed gratitude to the Government for empowering local contractors and communities through CDF-funded projects. Residents see this as proof that Zambians can deliver quality infrastructure without relying solely on foreign contractors.

James Mutale, a Kabaso resident, described the impact:
“I am impressed with how the work is coming along. The old bridge was unsafe, especially for children who often fell while crossing. We thank the Government for this wonderful project. It will make movement easier for everyone, including nearby businesses like the milling plant.”

For learners, the bridge means improved safety and access to education. Abel Chiluba, a pupil from Kabaso township, said:
“During the rainy season, the old bridge would be submerged, making it hard for us to go to school. With the new bridge under construction, we will now be able to cross easily and safely.”

Construction involves demolishing the existing timber bridge, site clearing, excavation, concrete pouring, and building a solid deck with protective balustrades. The 20-week project is expected to be completed by November 2025.

For Kalulushi Municipal Council, the Kabaso Bridge marks a key milestone in ensuring that CDF funds directly improve community lives. The bridge will enhance connectivity, improve safety, and ease access to schools, markets, and health facilities.

The Kabaso Bridge is more than concrete and steel. It is a symbol of transformation, safety, and empowerment, showing how CDF continues to uplift communities and drive development in Kalulushi.
