First Lady Mutinta Hichilema and President Hakainde Hichilema welcomed His Excellency Dr. Lazarus McCarthy Chakwera, President of the Republic of Malawi, and First Lady Madam Monica Chakwera at the Kulamba Traditional Ceremony in Katete on 30 August 2024. The ceremony united the Chewa people from Zambia, Malawi, and Mozambique, highlighting their shared cultural heritage.
The visit of the Malawian delegation emphasized the importance of regional cooperation and cultural exchange. President Hichilema thanked His Majesty Kalonga Gawa Undi for the invitation to officiate at the ceremony, describing it as a lively celebration of Zambia’s diversity and unity. He noted that the event reflects the national motto: One Zambia, One Nation, One People.
During the ceremony, President Hichilema reaffirmed the government’s commitment to working closely with traditional leaders. He highlighted the role of such partnerships in advancing development and fostering cohesion across Zambia.
