Inspector General of Police Graphel Musamba has reaffirmed the Zambia Police Service’s commitment to a future where leadership is defined by competence, integrity, and dedication, rather than gender. Speaking at the official opening of a five-day training workshop on the Development of Policewomen Leadership, Musamba’s message was delivered by Zambia Police Director-Legal John Daka.
Musamba highlighted that women in the Zambia Police Service have historically had to work twice as hard to gain recognition, often in environments that did not fully support their leadership potential. He emphasized that leadership is not a privilege reserved for a select few, but a responsibility that must include all voices.
“Leadership is defined by action, accountability, and service,” Musamba said. “It is crucial to create opportunities that allow every officer, regardless of gender, to contribute to national service at the highest levels.”
The training workshop aims to equip female officers with the skills, knowledge, and confidence needed to assume leadership roles across the police service. Topics include strategic management, ethical decision-making, crisis response, and community engagement.
Musamba noted that fostering women’s leadership strengthens the police service, enhances operational effectiveness, and promotes public trust. By investing in female officers, the Zambia Police Service seeks to create a more inclusive and representative leadership structure.
The initiative reflects a broader commitment to gender equality within law enforcement, ensuring that women have equal opportunities to lead, innovate, and shape policies that impact communities nationwide. The five-day workshop is expected to lay the foundation for sustained growth in women’s leadership across Zambia’s policing institutions.
