As part of the World Tourism Week 2025 celebrations, Zambia marked the event under the theme “Tourism and Sustainable Transformation” in Livingstone. Minister of Tourism, Honourable Rodney Sikumba, led a tree planting exercise to reaffirm the country’s commitment to sustainable development and environmental stewardship.

The initiative focused on integrating tourism with environmental conservation. By planting trees, the Ministry of Tourism aims to demonstrate how tourism can contribute to protecting ecosystems, reducing carbon emissions, and mitigating the effects of climate change. The exercise also underscores the importance of responsible tourism practices that support biodiversity and maintain natural resources for future generations.

Minister Sikumba highlighted that tourism is a powerful driver for sustainable development. He emphasized that preserving natural habitats not only enhances Zambia’s appeal as a tourist destination but also strengthens the country’s resilience to climate-related challenges. The initiative aligns with national strategies to promote eco-tourism, green infrastructure, and community engagement in conservation efforts.

The tree planting exercise attracted participation from local communities, tourism stakeholders, and environmental organizations. This collaborative approach reinforces the message that sustainable tourism requires collective action from both government and citizens.

Zambia’s World Tourism Week 2025 celebrations showcase how the country is leveraging tourism to drive environmental responsibility, economic growth, and social development while building a greener and more sustainable future.
