Zambia’s annual inflation rate for August 2025 has declined to 12.6 percent, down from 13.0 percent recorded in July. The decrease is attributed to price movements in both food and non-food items, according to Zambia Statistics Agency Acting Statistician General Sheila Mudenda.

Speaking at a press briefing on Thursday, Mudenda said Lusaka Province recorded the highest contribution to overall annual inflation at 3.9 percentage points, while Northwestern Province contributed the lowest at 0.5 percentage points.

She highlighted strong growth in trade, noting that Zambia recorded a 19.7 percent increase in cumulative total trade from January to July 2025. The trade value for this period reached K376.1 billion, compared to K314.2 billion over the same period in 2024.

The Acting Statistician General said the slowdown in inflation signals easing price pressures in key sectors and provides an opportunity for policymakers to monitor trends while supporting economic stability.

These figures reflect ongoing efforts to stabilize the economy, manage price fluctuations, and support trade growth across provinces, ensuring balanced economic development in Zambia.
