Sejani passed away on Monday, July 28, 2025, in South Africa after a period of illness.

In a statement issued by Secretary to the Cabinet Patrick Kangwa, the late former Cabinet Minister will be laid to rest at Leopards Hill Memorial Park in Lusaka, with full honours befitting his service to the nation. His body arrived in Zambia on Friday, August 1, 2025, from Netcare Garden City Hospital in Johannesburg, where he had been receiving treatment.

President Hichilema’s gesture reflects the government’s deep appreciation for Sejani’s many years of public service and dedication to national development. A respected statesman, Sejani served in various capacities, leaving a legacy of integrity, leadership, and commitment to local government reform.

“The Government of the Republic of Zambia is deeply saddened by the passing of Mr. Sejani,” the statement read. “He contributed immensely to Zambia’s democratic governance and institutional strengthening during his tenure in public office.”

As the nation observes the day of mourning, all flags will fly at half-mast, and entertainment programming on radio and television will be suspended in line with official protocol.

Ackson Sejani is remembered not only for his work in government but also for his unwavering advocacy for good governance, accountability, and service delivery at the grassroots level. His leadership at the Local Government Service Commission was marked by a focus on professionalism, decentralisation, and improving public service performance.

His passing is a great loss to Zambia, and his contributions will be felt for generations to come. As the country prepares to lay him to rest, tributes continue to pour in from colleagues, political leaders, and ordinary citizens whose lives were impacted by his work.

The nation joins the Sejani family in mourning a dedicated servant of the people and salutes a life well lived.
