The Minister of Community Development and Social Services, Hon. Doreen Mwamba, has officially handed over agricultural equipment and livestock valued at K1.3 million to beneficiaries of the Food Security Pack (FSP) programme in Isoka District. This initiative aims to strengthen rural livelihoods and enhance food security across the region.
At the handover ceremony, Minister Mwamba highlighted the critical role of agricultural mechanisation in increasing crop yields and improving nutrition. She stated that the equipment would help farmers boost productivity and contribute to the government’s wider goal of ensuring food security for all citizens. She also emphasized the need for collaborative efforts among government, communities, and other stakeholders to achieve sustainable progress.
Minister Mwamba noted improvements in repayment rates within the FSP programme, which have allowed for more community-driven projects targeting poverty reduction. These positive trends reflect growing ownership and responsibility among beneficiaries.
Isoka Member of Parliament, Ms. Marjorie Nakaponda, welcomed the programme’s impact on local households. She urged beneficiaries to fully utilize the agricultural tools to increase household incomes and to maintain the equipment to ensure long-term benefits.
Isoka District Commissioner, Mr. Jairo Simbeya, praised the government’s delivery of essential agricultural tools. He said the equipment would significantly reduce the distance farmers travel to access machinery, making farming more efficient and less labor-intensive.
This handover is part of a broader government strategy to enhance rural mechanisation and improve livelihoods. It complements other social protection initiatives such as the Social Cash Transfer and Village Banking programmes, which aim to empower vulnerable communities economically.
