Local Government and Rural Development Minister Gift Sialubalo has expressed strong satisfaction with the progress of ongoing township road projects in Lusaka. During a recent tour of multiple road infrastructure sites across the city, Minister Sialubalo highlighted the Ministry’s commitment to improving Lusaka’s road network and detailed the significant budget allocated for these developments.

The Minister disclosed that the total budget earmarked for the Lusaka township road works stands at K1.8 billion, a substantial investment aimed at enhancing urban mobility and boosting local economic activities. “We are inspecting the road network that is being done within Lusaka, which we call township roads that fall under the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development, to look at the works done, where they are, the challenges being faced, and also appreciating the quality of the work,” Sialubalo explained.

Minister Sialubalo’s inspection tour included key locations such as Garden Township and Acacia Road, where visible progress has been made. He commended the contractors for maintaining high standards and urged continuous monitoring to ensure that the project timelines and quality benchmarks are met.

The Ministry’s focus on township roads underscores its strategic vision to improve the daily lives of Lusaka residents by addressing the critical infrastructure gaps in residential and commercial areas outside the main city thoroughfares. These upgrades are expected to facilitate better access to markets, schools, and health facilities, ultimately contributing to socio-economic development.

Challenges related to construction logistics and material supply were also acknowledged by the Minister, who assured the public that his Ministry is working closely with contractors and suppliers to mitigate any delays. “So far, what we have seen is that some works are going on, especially in Garden, Acacia Road in Lusaka, and other township areas. We are committed to resolving challenges to ensure timely completion,” he stated.

The K1.8 billion township roads project is part of a broader government initiative to enhance urban infrastructure across Zambia, reflecting the administration’s dedication to improving road safety and connectivity for all citizens.

As the works continue, residents and commuters in Lusaka are encouraged to remain patient and supportive, as the improved road networks will significantly ease transportation challenges once completed. Minister Sialubalo reaffirmed the Ministry’s pledge to maintain transparency and regular communication about the project’s progress.

The Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development’s active supervision and the substantial financial investment demonstrate a robust approach toward transforming Lusaka’s township roads into safer, more durable, and accessible routes that will serve the city’s growing population for years to come.
