The Zambia National Futsal team has made a significant leap in the latest FIFA Futsal rankings, moving from eighth to fifth on the African continent and reaching 85th in the world. This rise reflects the team’s strong performances in recent matches, including back-to-back victories over South Africa and an 8-6 aggregate win over Ghana, which secured their spot in the 2026 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON). These results have earned Zambia 834 ranking points in just four matches, highlighting the growing strength and consistency of the team. The rise in rankings demonstrates that Zambia is becoming a competitive force in African futsal, gradually narrowing the gap with established teams.
Despite their progress, Zambia still trails North African futsal powerhouses, including Libya, Egypt, Angola and reigning African champions Morocco. The team’s ascent is, however, a clear indicator of development within the sport at the national level, driven by improved coaching, talent identification and player performance. Zambia’s success in qualifying for AFCON will provide further opportunities to test themselves against top African teams, gain international exposure and continue building momentum. The rise in rankings also reflects growing support for futsal in Zambia, as investment in training facilities and youth programs begins to yield tangible results. With continued focus and preparation, Zambia aims to further climb both African and global rankings, solidifying their position as a rising futsal nation.
