FAZ President Keith Mweemba has hailed a weekend of triumph for Zambian football following the National Futsal Team’s qualification for the 2026 Africa Cup of Nations finals in Morocco. Zambia secured the milestone after a 2–0 victory over Ghana in the second leg of the final qualifying round. Mweemba expressed pride in the team’s performance, noting that the qualification marks the country’s second consecutive appearance at the continental futsal tournament. He highlighted the mental strength and resilience of the squad, particularly recalling the first leg when Zambia trailed by two goals at halftime but recovered to draw 6–6. “Our hope is that they carry this same fighting spirit into Morocco,” Mweemba said.
The president also praised Zesco United for securing their first victory in the CAF Confederation Cup with a 1–0 win over Egyptian giants Zamalek in Ndola. The goal by Hamed Hiver not only brought the club a historic win but also demonstrated the progress Zesco has made despite an uneven campaign. Mweemba acknowledged that the team’s chances of progressing further in the tournament were limited, but emphasized that the experience gained from the first three matches is now showing results. He encouraged clubs and technical benches to emulate the hunger and determination displayed by Zesco United, the National Futsal Team, and other teams in continental competitions.
Power Dynamos also drew praise from Mweemba for recording a crucial win that strengthens their prospects in the CAF Champions League. Similarly, the Zambia Under-20 Women’s National Team impressed by coming from a goal down to earn a 1–1 draw against Uganda. The FAZ president stressed that these performances reflect the kind of commitment and character expected across all Zambian football teams. He urged all technical benches to maintain consistency in ambition and effort, emphasizing that the success of one team sets a benchmark for others to follow.
Mweemba’s remarks underline the importance of resilience, preparation, and tactical discipline in achieving success at both club and national levels. The recent victories across futsal, club, and women’s football showcase Zambia’s growing competitiveness in continental tournaments. These results are expected to boost morale among players, coaches, and fans, reinforcing the country’s commitment to developing football across all levels.
The weekend’s achievements signal a bright outlook for Zambian football as teams prepare for upcoming continental competitions. With the Futsal Team heading to Morocco, Power Dynamos in the CAF Champions League, and Zesco United continuing their campaign, momentum is building for Zambian clubs and national teams alike. Mweemba concluded by reiterating that sustained effort, focus, and fighting spirit are essential to translating potential into consistent results on the continental stage.
