The African Climate Foundation (ACF) has recognized Zambia as a priority country for climate funding in Africa, highlighting the nation’s ongoing efforts in climate adaptation and sustainable development.
ACF Executive Director Saliem Fakir stated that the organisation is encouraged by Zambia’s current climate initiatives and aims to provide supplementary support to strengthen these efforts. Fakir highlighted the Foundation’s interest in collaborating with Zambia on its energy diversification agenda, which seeks to address national power shortages and promote sustainable energy solutions.
The announcement was made during a meeting in Lusaka chaired by Secretary to the Cabinet Patrick Kangwa. The session brought together representatives from various government ministries and departments to discuss avenues for climate financing and strategic partnerships.
Secretary Kangwa emphasized that Zambians have high expectations for improved access to climate funding. He noted that partnerships with organisations like ACF are crucial for accelerating climate action and achieving national sustainability goals.
Ministry of Green Economy and Environment Acting Permanent Secretary Rainford Simumbwe confirmed that the recruitment process for the Climate National Adaptation Adviser under ACF support will be completed soon. This adviser will play a key role in coordinating climate adaptation projects and ensuring effective use of funds.
The collaboration between Zambia and ACF signals a significant step in strengthening climate resilience, expanding energy access, and supporting sustainable development projects across the country.
