Joint inspections targeting companies with environmental irregularities have resumed on the Copperbelt. On 13 November 2025, Permanent Secretary Dr Douty Chibamba led an inspection at Rongxing Investments together with the Zambia Environmental Management Agency. The visit aimed to assess the company’s compliance after earlier violations.

Rongxing Investments had previously been shut down after an environmental breach that caused soil pollution and an acid spillage into the Luela stream. The incident affected nearby farmers who depend on the stream for their fields. The company was ordered to neutralize the contaminated soil and to compensate the affected community.

The latest inspection found that the company diverted its focus toward illegal expansion works instead of completing the required cleanup. This action went against ZEMA guidelines. It also created a risk of a second pollution event, raising concerns about the company’s commitment to safe operations.

The findings highlight the need for stronger oversight as Zambia seeks investment while protecting the health of its citizens and natural resources. You need functioning regulatory systems to ensure that companies follow the law and manage their activities responsibly.

The Ministry and ZEMA have stated that compliance monitoring will continue. Officials plan to carry out more inspections to ensure that companies meet environmental standards and safeguard surrounding communities.
