Zambia hosted His Highness Sheikh Mansour Bin Jabor Bin Jassim Al Thani of Qatar and his delegation at State House yesterday. The visit highlights the growing cooperation between the two nations, building on the momentum from Zambia’s 2023 State Visit to Doha. That visit established Zambia’s Resident Diplomatic Mission in Qatar, laying the foundation for closer economic and political engagement.
During the meeting, both countries signed multi-billion-dollar memoranda of understanding covering key sectors, including mining, energy, agriculture, infrastructure, textiles, transport and logistics, as well as banking and finance. These agreements open new avenues for investment and economic collaboration, with a focus on sustainable growth and development.
President Hakainde Hichilema emphasized that the partnership goes beyond economic interests. “Zambia and Qatar will also work together to address global challenges, especially in the promotion of peace, stability, and security. Without peace, there can be no sustainable development,” he said.
The agreements mark a significant milestone in Zambia-Qatar relations, positioning both countries to benefit from shared expertise, technology transfer, and financial investment. Analysts note that these collaborations could accelerate Zambia’s infrastructure projects, enhance energy security, and expand agricultural and industrial productivity.
This visit underscores Zambia’s commitment to diversifying its economic partnerships and strengthening international alliances. The collaboration with Qatar is expected to bring long-term benefits, supporting job creation, industrial growth, and regional stability.
Zambia and Qatar’s renewed engagement reflects a strategic vision aimed at fostering development, promoting peace, and enhancing bilateral cooperation across multiple sectors.
