The Eastern Province branch of the Republican Progressive Party (RPP) has welcomed the government’s latest reduction in fuel pump prices, describing the move as a significant step towards easing the cost of living and promoting economic stability in Zambia.

In a statement issued by RPP Eastern Province Chairperson Alexander Miti, the party commended the government for demonstrating strong economic management and responsiveness to the needs of ordinary citizens. The Energy Regulation Board (ERB), in its July 2025 fuel price review, announced that the price of petrol would drop from K31.36 to K28.00 per litre, while diesel would reduce from K25.12 to K23.13 per litre.

“This is welcome news for the people of Eastern Province,” said Miti. “Lower fuel prices will reduce transport costs, which in turn is expected to bring down the prices of essential goods and services.”

The RPP highlighted that the fuel price reduction was achieved without resorting to government subsidies. Miti described this as a positive sign of sound economic governance and effective fiscal management.

“It shows the government is committed to stabilising the economy while protecting the livelihoods of ordinary Zambians,” he added.

The party further noted the direct benefits that lower fuel costs would have on transport operators in the region. Small-scale transporters, taxi drivers, and motorbike riders who depend on affordable fuel for their daily operations are expected to experience immediate relief in their operating costs.

“Lower operational costs mean these workers can take more money home to support their families. This is real, practical support to the people on the ground,” Miti said.

The RPP also praised the government’s broader commitment to people-centered development and called for the continuation of economic reforms that prioritize affordability and empowerment.

The fuel price changes, which took effect at midnight on 30th June 2025, also included reductions in the prices of kerosene and Jet A-1 fuel, according to the ERB. Government sources attribute the latest price cuts to a combination of favourable international oil market trends, the recent appreciation of the kwacha, and improved efficiency in regional fuel procurement mechanisms.

The RPP Eastern Province leadership believes that such positive economic measures will continue to build confidence among citizens and help drive Zambia’s growth agenda forward.
