Eastern Province, Zambia – 17 June 2025 — Zambia’s drive toward clean and sustainable energy has taken a significant leap forward following the announcement of a strategic partnership between local energy firm Accura Logistics and international investor Baker Global Capital Africa. The partnership will see the deployment of 50 megawatts (MW) of solar power across 209 public institutions in Eastern Province.
Energy Minister Makozo Chikote confirmed the development in a statement issued on his behalf by Principle Public Relations Officer Bob Sianjalika on Monday. Chikote said the agreement signals the government’s unwavering dedication to unlocking Zambia’s renewable energy potential and ensuring inclusive energy access in rural and underserved areas.
“The Ministry of Energy is glad to announce the formalization of a strategic partnership between Zambian firm Accura Logistics and international investor Baker Global Capital Africa for the deployment of 50 megawatts (MW) of solar power across 209 public institutions in Eastern Province,” read the statement.
Chikote said the collaboration is aligned with the government’s broader national energy strategy, which focuses on diversifying energy sources, increasing rural electrification, and reducing reliance on the national grid. He stressed that access to clean, affordable, and reliable energy is critical for Zambia’s socio-economic development.
“This partnership reflects our government’s strong commitment to delivering practical results in the energy sector,” Chikote said. “By lighting up schools, health centres, and government offices, we are not just powering buildings—we are powering progress, education, and better public service delivery.”
The rollout is expected to benefit a wide range of institutions, including rural health posts, secondary schools, agricultural research centres, and district administrative offices. The 50MW of solar power will significantly ease the pressure on the national grid, improve service delivery, and bolster climate resilience.
Accura Logistics, a Zambian company with a growing footprint in energy infrastructure, will spearhead project execution, while Baker Global Capital Africa will provide the investment and technical support needed to ensure successful implementation.
The initiative comes at a time when Zambia is intensifying efforts to meet its renewable energy targets and build a green economy. With abundant sunshine year-round, solar power has emerged as one of the most viable and scalable energy solutions for the country.
Minister Chikote concluded the announcement by reaffirming the Ministry’s support for innovative public-private partnerships that deliver tangible results for communities. He called on other provinces and stakeholders to emulate the model being rolled out in Eastern Province, as Zambia accelerates its transition to sustainable and inclusive energy systems.
