Zambia Premier League (ZPL) Chairman Kephas Katongo has vowed to challenge his disqualification from contesting his position in the upcoming Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) elections set for March 29. Katongo, one of the candidates barred from the highly anticipated polls, remains optimistic that the appeal process will grant him a second chance to vie for office.

Speaking on the matter, Katongo expressed confidence in his case, emphasizing that his situation was unique. “For me, I think my situation is different. I don’t want to go into details because my situation is that the people that nominated me were not in the system,” he explained. “So now, I can appeal, and the next process is to appear before the relevant authorities. At the end of it, it’s up to the decision-makers.”

Katongo’s disqualification has sparked debate among football stakeholders, with some questioning the transparency of the vetting process. His supporters argue that he has played a crucial role in the growth of the ZPL and deserves a fair chance to contest.

The FAZ elections are expected to be fiercely contested, with several prominent figures vying for key positions within the country’s football governing body. As the appeal process unfolds, all eyes will be on whether Katongo’s bid to re-enter the race will be successful.

With the March 29 elections fast approaching, the football fraternity awaits further developments regarding his appeal and the final list of candidates cleared to contest.
