Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Hon. Mulambo Haimbe, S.C., M.P., has received Copies of Letters of Credence from seven Ambassadors and High Commissioners accredited to Zambia. The diplomatic representatives come from Canada, Nigeria, the United Arab Emirates, Finland, Spain, the Netherlands and Guinea. The presentation of Letters of Credence marks an important step in the formal establishment or continuation of diplomatic representation between Zambia and the respective countries. The envoys will represent their governments in advancing bilateral relations and cooperation with Zambia. Their arrival also provides an opportunity to strengthen engagement in areas such as trade, investment, development cooperation, political relations and people-to-people ties.
Among the new diplomatic representatives is Her Excellency Ms. Corry Van Gaal, High Commissioner-Designate of Canada to the Republic of Zambia. Canada and Zambia maintain diplomatic relations that provide opportunities for cooperation across various areas of mutual interest. Her appointment comes as Zambia continues to engage international partners on matters linked to economic development, investment and cooperation. The Canadian High Commissioner will have an important role in representing Canada’s interests while engaging Zambian authorities and institutions. Her diplomatic responsibilities are expected to contribute to continued dialogue between the two countries and the strengthening of their bilateral relationship.
Nigeria was also represented through Her Royal Majesty Queen Efe Alexandrina Clark-Omero, Justice of Peace, who has been designated as High Commissioner of the Federal Republic of Nigeria to the Republic of Zambia. Zambia and Nigeria share longstanding relations as members of the African community and participants in regional and continental initiatives. Diplomatic engagement between the two countries provides opportunities for cooperation on economic, political and social matters. The presence of a new Nigerian High Commissioner in Zambia can support continued communication between the two governments. It can also contribute to stronger people-to-people relations and cooperation between institutions in both countries.
His Excellency Mr. Mohammed Saeed Mohammed Alkaabi, Ambassador-Designate of the United Arab Emirates to the Republic of Zambia, was also among the diplomats who presented his credentials. Relations between Zambia and the UAE provide opportunities for engagement in areas including trade, investment and economic cooperation. Zambia has continued to seek international partnerships that can support investment and economic development, making diplomatic engagement with countries such as the UAE significant. The new ambassador will represent the UAE while working with Zambian authorities to identify areas of mutual interest. His appointment can provide another channel for strengthening commercial and diplomatic ties between the two countries.
Finland was represented by Her Excellency Ms. Marja Rosvall, Ambassador-Designate to the Republic of Zambia. Finland and Zambia can use diplomatic engagement to advance cooperation in areas of shared interest, including development and economic relations. The appointment of a new ambassador provides an opportunity for the two countries to maintain direct communication and explore areas where their respective institutions can work together. Diplomatic missions also play an important role in supporting exchanges between governments, businesses and other organisations. The diplomatic representatives from Spain and the Netherlands will be resident in Harare, Zimbabwe, while also serving as ambassadors to Zambia. Her Excellency Mrs. Maria Lourdes Sangroniz Guerricagoitia has been designated Ambassador of Spain to Zambia, with residence in Harare. His Excellency Mr. Matthijs van Eeuwen has been designated Ambassador of the Kingdom of the Netherlands to Zambia, also with residence in Harare. Their concurrent accreditation means that they will carry diplomatic responsibilities for Zambia while being based in Zimbabwe. Their roles will provide channels for continued engagement between Zambia and the two European countries on bilateral and broader international matters.
Her Excellency Mrs. Dienabou Saifon Diallo, Ambassador-Designate of the Republic of Guinea to Zambia, with residence in Angola, was also among the diplomats who presented Copies of Letters of Credence. Zambia and Guinea are both part of the wider African diplomatic and economic community, creating opportunities for cooperation through bilateral and multilateral platforms. Her appointment provides another avenue for Zambia to strengthen relations with countries across the African continent. The ambassador will represent Guinea in Zambia while maintaining her base in Angola. Her diplomatic role can support communication and cooperation between the two governments on matters of shared interest.
