The Government of Zambia has received a dividend payment of K120,378,353.23 from TAZAMA Pipelines Limited, marking a major boost to public revenue and reinforcing the role of state-owned enterprises in national development. The payment has been described as clear evidence of the growing contribution that well-managed public companies make to economic transformation and fiscal sustainability. It comes at a time when Zambia continues to focus on strengthening revenue collection and improving the performance of key infrastructure assets. The funds are expected to support broader national development programmes and improve service delivery across multiple sectors. This development highlights the strategic importance of TAZAMA Pipelines Limited in the country’s energy and economic ecosystem.

Acting Secretary to the Treasury Mrs. Mwaka Mukubesa received the dividend on behalf of the Government and praised the leadership of TAZAMA Pipelines Limited for maintaining strong financial results in a difficult global energy environment. She congratulated the Board, management and staff for demonstrating discipline and efficiency that has translated into solid performance. She stated that the dividend reflects improved corporate governance, stronger operational systems and ongoing reforms within the company. According to her, these factors have strengthened the company’s position as one of Zambia’s most critical national infrastructure assets. She also emphasized that consistent performance from state-owned enterprises supports long-term fiscal stability and reduces pressure on public finances.

Mrs. Mukubesa highlighted several key operational milestones that have contributed to TAZAMA’s improved performance. These include the implementation of the Open Access Framework, which has improved transparency and competition in pipeline usage. She also pointed to the introduction of the Drag Reducing Agent, a technical improvement designed to enhance pipeline efficiency and optimize fuel transport. Another milestone was the successful transportation of Zambia’s first diesel consignment under the new framework, which demonstrates operational progress and system reliability. She explained that these developments have improved competitiveness and strengthened the company’s ability to meet national energy demands. She added that reliable energy infrastructure remains essential for supporting mining, agriculture, manufacturing, transport and wider commercial activity across the country.

The Acting Secretary to the Treasury further stated that TAZAMA Pipelines Limited plays a central role in ensuring Zambia’s energy security through the steady supply of petroleum products. She noted that dependable energy systems are essential for increasing productivity and attracting both domestic and foreign investment. She stressed that without reliable infrastructure, economic growth would face significant constraints across multiple sectors. She also reaffirmed Government’s commitment to creating an enabling environment that allows state-owned enterprises to operate efficiently while maintaining accountability and innovation. She said improved performance in these institutions directly expands the Government’s ability to finance national priorities and deliver quality public services.

Mrs. Mukubesa received the dividend cheque from TAZAMA Board Chairperson and Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Energy, Professor Ephraim Munshifwa, on behalf of the Government and the people of Zambia. She assured citizens that the funds will be managed responsibly and directed toward development programmes that improve living standards across the country. She encouraged TAZAMA Pipelines Limited to maintain its focus on operational excellence, innovation and strong corporate governance. She also expressed confidence that continued performance improvements will support Zambia’s long-term economic resilience and energy security.
