Zambia has officially launched the Radio Excellence Awards, an initiative designed to recognise and reward outstanding radio professionals across the country. Acting Permanent Secretary Mr. Louis Mwansa highlighted the government’s commitment to supporting initiatives that strengthen the media sector, acknowledging the critical role radio plays in national development. Radio continues to be one of the most trusted and far-reaching platforms, connecting communities, saving lives during emergencies, shaping public discourse, and strengthening democratic processes. Practitioners have been urged to uphold the highest standards of accuracy, fairness, and responsibility, using radio as a tool for unity, dialogue, and national progress.

Dr. Brenda Bukowa, Governing Council Chairperson, emphasised the importance of recognising excellence in radio broadcasting, noting the medium’s ability to inform, educate, and empower citizens. She pointed out that radio remains highly accessible and affordable, both in production and consumption, making it a vital part of Zambia’s development agenda even in the digital era. The initiative aims to promote professional excellence, reward outstanding contributions, and celebrate the individuals who shape the broadcast sector. Voting for the awards opened on February 12th, 2026, and will run until August 31st, 2026, with the awards gala scheduled for September. The launch has been widely welcomed by industry stakeholders as a timely effort to elevate the standards and visibility of radio in Zambia.
