The Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) has announced that its Technical Director, Mr. Lyson Zulu, has been appointed by FIFA as the Technical Development Scheme (TDS) High-Performance Specialist for Africa. This appointment marks a significant milestone in Zulu’s career and highlights Zambia’s growing influence in global football development.

Mr. Zulu joined FAZ in March 2019 as Football Development Manager and was promoted to Technical Director in April 2019. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Sports Management from Loughborough University in the United Kingdom and a Sports Performance Degree from Bath University. In 2024, he was one of only 24 Technical Directors worldwide to receive the FIFA Technical Leadership Diploma in Zurich, completing an 18-month intensive academic program.

FAZ General Secretary Machacha Shepande congratulated Zulu on his new role, emphasizing both the pride and impact of the appointment. He stated that while Zulu’s departure would leave a gap in the association, his elevation to an international platform reflects the quality of technical expertise being cultivated within FAZ.

Shepande added that Zulu’s appointment is not only a personal achievement but also a recognition of FAZ, Zambian football, and African football. In his new role, Zulu will influence high-performance systems across the continent, contributing to the growth of African football in competitiveness, structure, and global relevance.

This appointment reinforces Zambia’s reputation as a producer of high-level technical professionals and underscores the increasing role of African experts in shaping the future of football at the continental and international level.
