The Ministry of Youth, Sport and Arts has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Jiangsu Fanye Power Energy Equipment Company Limited of China to solarize the National Heroes Stadium. The agreement marks a major step in linking sports and arts with clean energy development and youth empowerment.

Under the project, solar energy will power the operations of the stadium, while surplus electricity will be supplied to the national grid. Communities around Lusaka, including Mandevu, Matero, and Kabanana, are expected to benefit from the additional power.

Speaking at the signing ceremony, the Minister of Youth, Sport and Arts, Honourable Elvis Nkandu, MP, described the agreement as a unique milestone. He noted that the initiative would help ease Zambia’s power deficit while providing opportunities for skills development among young people.

As part of the partnership, Chinese experts from Jiangsu Fanye will conduct hands-on training in solar technology for Zambian youths. Training will begin at the National Heroes Stadium before extending to other stadia and youth resource centres across the country.

The Minister of Energy, Honourable Makozo Chikote, MP, delivered a vote of thanks and praised the MoU as a contribution to Zambia’s goal of generating 3,000MW from solar energy. He pledged full collaboration with the Ministry of Youth, Sport and Arts to ensure successful implementation.

Jiangsu Fanye Managing Director, Madam Amy Meng, reaffirmed the company’s commitment to creating jobs, transferring knowledge, and building the capacity of young people to lead in renewable energy.

The Ministry has reiterated its dedication to using partnerships like this to empower the youth, strengthen sports infrastructure, and support Zambia’s transition to sustainable energy solutions.
