Copper Queens Head Coach Norah Hauptle has announced plans to broaden the national team’s scouting network to include players of Zambian descent based abroad. Speaking to the FAZ Media team, Hauptle emphasized that diaspora players must prove they are superior to local talent to earn a place in the squad. She highlighted France-based striker Samiah Phiri, who recently received a call-up, as an example of the team’s ongoing engagement with Zambian players overseas.

Hauptle stated that the technical bench is actively identifying eligible players in Europe and the United States. “All players in the diaspora with Zambian roots are welcome to our national team,” she said. The coach stressed that the initiative is designed to strengthen the squad while maintaining commitment to national identity and team cohesion.

For diaspora players, Hauptle outlined three critical requirements: commitment, quality, and character. Players must demonstrate a willingness to play for Zambia and show a strong connection to the country. They must also surpass local talent in their position to be considered for selection. Finally, their character must align with the team’s ethos, ensuring harmony within the squad.

The coach explained that once these steps are satisfied, players are invited to join the Copper Queens. “Sometimes we need to work on documentation, passports, and other formalities. Once that’s complete, they are good to go,” Hauptle said. The expanded scouting network reflects a strategic approach to strengthen the national team by tapping into global talent while preserving the Copper Queens’ commitment to performance and national pride.
