Zambia marked the 2025 International Anti-Corruption Day with a focus on youth engagement under the theme “Uniting with the Youth Against Corruption: Shaping Tomorrow’s Integrity.” The event highlighted the pivotal role young people play in fostering integrity and accountability across society.
President Hakainde Hichilema emphasized that the youth are central to the fight against corruption, describing them as inheritors and guardians of the nation’s future. He stressed their potential to drive innovation, resilience, and determination in promoting transparency. Strengthening education and outreach programmes in collaboration with the Ministry of Education and key partners was highlighted as a critical strategy for cultivating a generation that rejects corruption.
The event also underscored the importance of technology in promoting accountability. Modern digital systems were cited as tools to enhance transparency and investigative capacity. Support from international partners, including the United Nations Development Programme, was recognized as essential in advancing these efforts.
President Hichilema reiterated the government’s commitment to confronting corruption at all levels while fostering a culture of integrity. He called for collective action to ensure that public resources serve the people, opportunities are awarded based on merit, and corruption is eradicated from society.
