Minister of Commerce, Trade and Industry Hon. Chipoka Mulenga, MP, has assured the nation that cement prices and supply are expected to normalize this week. He delivered the update during a meeting with cement producers and key stakeholders in Lusaka. He stressed the need for consistent, affordable cement for domestic consumers as the construction sector continues to grow.
He said he received a directive from the Head of State to ensure cement remains available and affordable for citizens. He added that the government welcomes higher exports and private sector expansion, but domestic needs must come first.
The meeting brought together cement producers, the Zambia Revenue Authority and ZESCO Ltd. The goal was to address recent shortages and price increases that affected several parts of the country. Hon. Mulenga urged all stakeholders to work together to maintain stable supply and pricing. He highlighted the importance of prioritizing local demand while still supporting economic growth.
Speaking for the producers, Dangote Cement General Manager for Sales and Marketing, Cassandra Mhone, assured the government that producers will act quickly to stabilize the market. She said they will work with the government to restore adequate supply, support small and medium enterprises and drive growth in construction and industry.
The commitment from both government and producers signals a coordinated response to protect consumers and safeguard the construction sector from further disruption.
