President Hakainde Hichilema recently met with His Excellency Hailemariam Desalegn Boshe, former Prime Minister of Ethiopia and Board Chairperson of the Alliance for a Green Revolution in Africa (AGRA), alongside representatives from Africa Parks, Trade Mark Africa (TMA), and other partners. The discussions focused on deepening collaboration to support Zambia’s agricultural development, improve trade efficiency, and promote sustainable tourism.
The meeting highlighted AGRA’s commitment to Zambia, including the planned establishment of an AGRA office in the country. This partnership will focus on fertilizer and soil health, efficient irrigation and water systems, climate-resilient seeds, and digital climate advisory tools. President Hichilema emphasized that these initiatives will strengthen agricultural productivity and resilience, benefiting farmers and rural communities across Zambia.
Trade Mark Africa’s contributions to improving border infrastructure and customs efficiency were also acknowledged. Enhancing these systems is expected to reduce trade costs, increase market access, and unlock regional value chains that support sustainable economic growth. Improved trade efficiency will create opportunities for businesses and strengthen Zambia’s role in regional commerce.
Africa Parks’ role in conservation-driven tourism was recognized as a key element in economic diversification. By improving infrastructure, accessibility, and coordinated tourism planning, Zambia aims to boost visitor arrivals, generate jobs, and protect biodiversity. The collaboration underscores the potential of tourism to contribute to both economic development and environmental sustainability.
President Hichilema expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Hailemariam and all partners for their shared vision and commitment. The meeting reinforced Zambia’s strategy of leveraging partnerships to advance agriculture, trade efficiency, and sustainable tourism, ensuring long-term growth and resilience for the nation and the region.
