Zambia is participating in this year’s World Food Day commemorations, represented by Minister of Fisheries and Livestock Engineer Peter Kapala and Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Green Economy and Environment Dr. Douty Chibamba. The Zambian delegation is attending the Hand-in-Hand Investment Initiative Forum, held alongside the World Food Day events in Rome.

This year’s commemorations are being hosted at the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) Headquarters, where the organization is marking 80 years of advancing global food security and promoting sustainable agri-food systems. The events are being graced by His Holiness Pope Leo XIV, who addressed delegates on the need for stronger global cooperation in combating hunger and supporting rural livelihoods.

Her Majesty Queen Letizia Ortiz Rocasolano of Spain is also in attendance, together with several Heads of State and global leaders. Their presence underscores the international commitment to addressing food insecurity, climate change, and the challenges affecting global agricultural systems.

For Zambia, participation in the forum highlights its dedication to promoting food security, sustainable agriculture, and environmental protection. The country continues to align its development agenda with global initiatives that support climate resilience and inclusive economic growth through agriculture.

Minister Kapala emphasized the importance of collaboration between nations and development partners in driving agricultural transformation. He noted that Zambia remains committed to improving productivity, supporting farmers, and investing in value addition to strengthen food systems.

The World Food Day commemorations serve as a platform for nations to exchange ideas, showcase progress, and reaffirm their commitment to ending hunger. Zambia’s participation reflects its growing role in global dialogues on food security and sustainable agricultural development.
