Government has officially seen off the Zambian martial arts team heading to the World Championship in Georgia, pledging continued support for the sport. Representing Minister of Youth, Sport and Arts, Hon. Elvis Nkandu, MP, Permanent Secretary Mr. Kangwa Chileshe announced that over K1 million had been released to cover air travel, accommodation, and attire for the athletes.
Mr. Chileshe stated that the investment reflects Government’s commitment to developing all sporting disciplines and encouraged cooperating partners to support the effort. He also reminded the athletes to maintain discipline, humility, and respect while competing, and to represent Zambia with dignity.
Team captain Gilbert Ndlovu expressed gratitude for the support and pledged that the team would perform at its best. “We are going out there to show the world what Zambia is made of. Our focus is to bring back as many gold medals as possible,” he said.
Zambia Mixed Martial Arts Secretary General, Kabuba Yalenga, also thanked the Ministry, noting that the athletes were motivated to deliver strong results. She encouraged more young girls to join martial arts, highlighting the sport’s discipline and opportunities for personal development.
The team is scheduled to depart for Georgia this afternoon and is expected to return on October 4th, carrying Zambia’s hopes for a strong showing at the championship.
