Botswana and Zambia have officially passed a resolution to establish the Kazungula Bridge Authority (KBA), which will begin operations on October 15 in Kasane. The authority is tasked with managing the Kazungula Bridge and its surrounding infrastructure, ensuring efficient movement of goods and people across the border.
The announcement was made jointly by Botswana’s Minister of Transport and Infrastructure, Noah Salakae, and Zambia’s Minister of Infrastructure, Housing and Urban Development, Charles Milupi. The declaration took place during the Joint Ministerial Committee Meeting of the Kazungula Bridge project in Kasane.
The KBA will have full responsibility for overseeing the bridge’s daily operations, maintenance, and safety protocols. Its establishment aims to reduce delays at the border, improve traffic flow, and support trade growth in both countries. Officials emphasized that the Kazungula Bridge is a critical transport link in Southern Africa, connecting Botswana, Zambia, and other regional markets.
In addition to operational management, the authority will implement systems to monitor safety and maintenance standards. It will coordinate with both governments to ensure sustainable infrastructure management and to address challenges in cross-border transport.
The launch of the Kazungula Bridge Authority marks a significant step toward enhancing regional connectivity and economic development. Both governments stressed that collaboration and sustainable management would be central to the authority’s success. The KBA is expected to strengthen trade, reduce logistical bottlenecks, and provide long-term benefits for businesses and travelers in the region.
